We Beat HMRC's Record!
Nordens 28 May 2019
HMRC announced that 94% of tax returns were filed by the 31st January deadline. But here at Nordens, we're delighted to say that 99.86% of our clients' tax returns were filed by the deadline!
The bigger picture
More than 11.5 million taxpayers were required to file their tax returns by 11.59pm on 31 January. Most filed on time, but 700,000 people missed the deadline. The number of taxpayers who filed online reached more than 10 million for the first time.
Penalties for late tax returns
- An initial £100 fixed penalty, even if there is no tax to pay
- After 3 months, additional daily penalties of £10 per day, up to a maximum of £900
- After 6 months, a further penalty of 5% of the tax due or £300, whichever is greater
- After 12 months, another 5% or £300 charge, whichever is greater
